Dedicated to the promotion of tourism and economic development for the community of Van Horn, Texas and Culberson County, Texas

Van Horn sits astride Intersate Highway 10 ( a principal southern artery from the U.S. Coast to the East Coast). Van Horn is also the hub of the Texas Mountain Trail which includes portions of IH-10, U.S. Highway 90 and Texas State Highway 54.

From Van Horn, in virtually any direction visitors will find a myriad of National Parks and Historic Sites, as well as Texas State Parks. Among these are:

Guadalupe Mountains National Park - a wilderness park located within Culberson County just 70 miles north of Van Horn.
Carlsbad Caverns National Park - Experience the magnificence of the underground caves where visitors find temperatures a pleasant 55 degrees year-round. Just about 100 miles north and east of Van Horn.
Fort Davis National Historic Site - 75 miles southeast of Van Horn in the heart of the Davis Mountains. Experience the days of the Buffalo Soldier on this frontier outpost.
Big Bend National Park - Some 200 miles south of Van Horn along some of the most scenic roads found anywhere. Big Bend is awe-inspiring to say the least and is a must see!
Fort Davis State Park - Located 75 miles southeast of Van Horn near the Fort Davis National Historic Site.
Balmorhea State Park - Located 75 east of Van Horn on IH-10.
McDonald Observatory - Located 75 miles southeast of Van Horn near Fort Davis. Operated by the University of Texas.

Van Horn has 15 motels, 3 RV Parks, 16 restaurants and 9 service stations all ready to serve the needs of the traveling public and, in particular, those visitors to our community.

Van Horn is the county seat of Culberson County, which is the 5th largest county (in square miles) in the State of Texas. The county is larger than the state of Rhode Island.
The elevation in the county ranges from the highest point in Texas, Guadalupe Peak at 8,751 feet, to valley floors around 3,500 feet.
The average annual rainfall in Van Horn is around 10 inches, most of which comes in July, August and September. Temperatures range from the 50’s and 60’s during winter months to between 85 and 100 during the summer months.

Van Horn also offers these services to visitors, residents and businesses:
Independent School District with about 800 students
Culberson Hospital District - 25 bed hospital (with Level IV Trauma certified Emergency Room), satellite Rural Health Clinic and a fully staffed Emergency Medical Service.
Two full-time physicians, and one full-time Family Nurse Practitioner.
City and County Governmental offices and services.
State and Federal Services
County-owned airport with two (2) lighted runways (6,000’ long) and an approved NDB instrument approach.
