Community News | Published: May 16, 2013 Members of Van Horn’s Rotary Club met for a luncheon meeting Tuesday and most of the meeting centered on business items.
The first order of business for members was consideration of three applications to attend Camp RYLA this summer. Students needed to be between their junior and senior years in high school to be considered. Club members did not receive any applications from boy students but did receive three applications from girls.
Following a review of the applications, club members opted to break with tradition and send all three of the applicants to Camp RYLA this summer. The Club sponsors each student by paying $600 apiece to send them to the week-long camp outside of Belen, New Mexico.
The three students selected to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award camp are: Starvanna Cottrell, Leslie Gonzalez and Jacqueline Turnbow.
With regard to the other business matter discussed, members will review student scholarship applications within the next two weeks in order to make the selection in time for presentation during the graduation awards ceremony in late May.
