- Youth of Van Horn’s First Baptist Church will be taking part in “Mission Van Horn” next week. This special emphasis time will focus on youth working on various projects at the church and visiting local families to offer assistance such as light bulbs, smoke detector batteries, Bibles, and an invitation to the church’s Vacation Bible School, which begins Monday and continues through Friday. Pastor Rob Casey commented, “We’re excited to have our youth involved in this way in the community. It’s their way of reaching out to Van Horn with assistance and at the same time helping to spread the light of the Gospel in our community.” Watch for them in town next week. "Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede" opens in Alpine tonight “Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede,” a tall tale of the Wild West, takes the Theatre of the Big Bend stage Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 7-10. Nightly performances begin at 8:15 p.m. Written by by Eric Coble and directed by Keith Ray West, “Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede” promises to bring out the kid in every spectator. The biggest herd of cattle west of the Mississippi has disappeared, and when that herd transforms into ghosts, Pecos Bill gets involved. When Young Missy Cougar-Wildcat, who has always wished she could live a tall-tale, steps into the scene, a whole new legend begins.
