- The May 24th Barrel Race event sponsored by Dollar J Productions has been deemed “a success” according to Bucky Etheridge and Dennis McBride.
The warm, dusty afternoon event saw lots of competitors vying for the winning trophies.
The results of the event have been reported and are as follows:
60 & Over The Hill: 1st Place - Dr. John Thomas; 2nd Place - “Pop” Easley.
Kids 10 -15 Years: 1st Place - Daniel Koch; 2nd Place - Ricky Shelley; 3rd Place - Garrett Watley.
Kids 9 & Under: 1st Place - Alexis Tarango; 2nd Place - Hailey Tarango; 3rd Place - Alex Escajeda.
Powder Puff: 1st Place - Becky Watley.
4-Wheel Cars & P/U: 1st Place - Dr. John Thomas; 2nd Place - Stewart Watley.
2-Wheel Cars & P/U: 1st Place - Shawn Easley; 2nd Place - Butch Harris; 3rd Place - Benito Corralez; 4th Place - Benny Molina.
ATV’s - 4-Wheel: 1st Place Daniel Massey; 2nd Place - John Elder.
ATV’s - 2-Wheel: 1st Place - Saul Lozano; 2nd Place - Adrianne Powell; 3rd Place - Jason McBride.
Race organizers extended a big thanks to the event sponsors, without whom, it would not have been the success it was.
Already, sponsors are planning the next event which will be held on Saturday, September 27th.
Seniors get scholarships
Van Horn High School graduating seniors were the recipients of scholarships during an awards ceremony held on May 29th.
Those seniors receiveing scholarships an dthe scholarship donors included:

V&E Gomez Scholarship: Brandon Brewster.
20th Century Scholarships: Kaleena Iglecias, K’Lee Romero, and Sharon Hinojos.
Randy Rutledge Scholarships: Bryan Rivera and Hayley McCoy.
Nelson Pruitt Scholarships: Vince Lujan (2 year) and Daniel Borrego (4 year).
Women’s Service League Scholarships: Daniel Borrego and Kaleena Iglecias.
Dual English Credit Scholarship: Kaleena Iglecias.
Quinto Sol Scholarships: Kaleena Iglecias, Marissa Balcazar, and Rolando Gonzalez.

GED in Van Horn!!
The Big Bend Workforce Partnership in collaboration with Odessa College is searching for GED participants that are out of school, primarily ages 16 to 21, and looking to better themselves in the workforce. Ages 21 and over are also welcomed.

AJRA Rodeo dates set for Van Horn show
It’s just about rodeo time in Van Horn!
The 4-H newsletter this week reported that the American Junior Rodeo Association Rodeo (AJRA) will be held in Van Horn on June 27th and 28th.
Entry forms, for those locals who might want to enter, may be picked up at West Texas Feed or the County Extension office in the County Courthouse.
According to Candice Hinojos, County Extension secretary, the entry deadline is June 17th and there will be no exceptions.
