- Local 4-H youth competed in the District 6 Horse Show in Fort Stockton on June 30th and July 1st. The Culberson County contingent took 1st Place in the Team Penning Event. The 1st Place team consisted of Junior Carmona, Desirae Brewster, and Ricky Shelley. The Team Penning winners will now head to Abilene for the State 4-H competition. In the Halter Registered Mare competition, Tyler Brewster took 2nd Place. Ricky Shelley took 3rd Place in the Poles competition. In the Western Riding competition, Tyler Brewster took 5th Place. Ricky Shelley took 5th Place in the Barrels competition. And, Shelley also took 5th Place in the Stakes competition. In the Reining competition, Tyler Brewster took 9th Place. He also took 9th Place in the WCH Trail competition. Ty Baker took 2nd Place in Breakaway Roping Other local 4-Hers who competed well but did not place included Anneliese Banta, Tommy Banta, Colin Brewster, and Whitney Walker. "Field of Dreams" baseball clinic slated for Alpine The Ben Gallego Field of Dreams Baseball Clinic is scheduled to be held at Alpine’s Little League Field on July 19th and 20th. The Clinic is open to kids 9 years through 15 years of age. There is a $40 cost per player to attend this Clinic. Clinic attendees will receive a t-shirt, grading score and an invite to the clinic pool party. Instructors at the Clinic will be former Alpine Buck baseball players, collegiate players, and current high school and college coaches. The Clinic Director is Ben Gallego, a current coach and associate scout for the Houston Astros.
