- School superintendent Guillermo Mancha, Jr. announced the district’s new Athletic Director Wednesday afternoon.
He is Domingo Vento, who came here in 2007. “During Mr. Vento’s tenure here, he has positively impacted our students, student programs, staff, and community. He has done an outstanding job in every capacity he has served at CCAISD. He is a seasoned teacher, coach, and colleague that demands excellence in all endeavors, especially if it impacts students,” noted Dr. Mancha.
Junior High girls win Presidio Meet, boys take 2nd
The Van Horn Junior High thinclads ran in the Presidio Track Meet last Friday and the girls came home having won the meet while the boys came home in 2nd place.
Coaches Anna Luna and Michael McBirnie were very pleased with the performance of these youngsters.

Girls Division:
2400 Meter Run: Abril Padilla took 1st Place.
4 x 100 Meter Relay: Team of Leslie Gonzales, K’Cee Romero, Elise Martinez and Karina Ramirez took 4th Place.
800 Meter Run: Abril Padilla took 1st Place.
100 Meter Hurdles: Mariela Garza took 1st Place; Harley Clawson took 2nd Place.
100 Meter Dash: Karina Ramirez took 1st Place.
4 x 200 Meter Relay: Team of Natalie Hernandez, Elise Martinez, Justine Quintana, and Mireya Quintana took 3rd Place.
400 Meter Dash: Cassandra Castro took 1st Place; Mireya Quintana took 2nd Place.
300 Meter Hurdles: Mariela Garza took 3rd Place; Harley Clawson took 5th Place.
200 Meter Dash: Leslie Gonzales took 3rd Pplace.
Mile Run: Abril Padilla took 1st Place.
4 x 400 Meter Relay: Team of Leslie Gonzales, Cassandra Castro, Mariela Garza and Karina Ramirez took 1st Place.
High Jump: Mireya Quintana took 1st Place.
Long Jump: Elise Martinez took 6th Place.
Triple Jump: Leslie Gonzales took 1st Place; Abril Padilla took 5th Place; and K’Cee Romero took 6th Place.
Discus: Rebekah Onate took 4th Place.
Shot Put: Kianna Fierro took 3rd Place; and Starvanna Cottrell took 5th Place.

4 x 100 Meter Relay: Team of Cruz Travis, Ryan Martinez, Luis Urias and Sam Rivera took 2nd Place.
800 Meter Run: Benny Lopez took 4th Place.
110 Meter Hurdles: Jacob Ontiveros took 1st Place.
4 x 200 Meter Relay: Team of Ryan Martinez, Sam Rivera, Luis Urias and Nathan Arrazate took 2nd Place.
400 Meter Dash: Cruz Travis took 4th Place.
300 Meter Hurdles: Jacob Ontiveros took 3rd Place.
