Fourth graders write letters following trip to Museum

A Hole in One.... Van Horn resident and nSierra Blanca coach Joel Martinez is one lucky guy. Last Saturday, while playing in a golf tournament to benefit the senior class, he hit a "hole in one" on hole #8 at the local course. COngratulations for this achievement!

Dear Editor:
The fourth grade class visited the Culberson County Historical Museum. We saw clothes that the people wore. Also we saw a lot of old stuff back then like an old toaster, two old ovens, and more! We were divided into two groups. One group went upstairs with Mrs. Stuckey and the other group went downstairs with Mr. Stuckey. There were a lot of arrowheads and rocks too and especially old wagons. We got to see Mr. Stuckey in our class on Thursday and he was telling us wonderful stuff about the museum. We also saw an old bar that had old bottles. Mr. Stuckey was telling us at the museum that the people that owned it used to bake breads. It was nice there at the museum because it feels like if I’m going back to the past.
Sincerely,
Mirella Zambra

Dear Editor:
The fourth grade visited the Culberson County Historical Museum, next door to the Dollar Store on Friday, May 2nd. I thought it was a great experience. We found out that the first two uses of the building were a saloon and a courthouse. Guess what, it had been used as a hotel too. It’s a two story building, and the bottom story was used as a pool hall, and saloon. The bottom exhibits were the kitchen, dining room, mining room and the old post office. On top the exhibits are old courthouse, offices, opera room, laundry room, and bedrooms. Did I mention that you should take your children there, they can visit the balcony with a beautiful view of all the northside of Van Horn.
Sincerely,
Crystal Valdez
P.S. It would be thoughtful to make donations. And I’d like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Stuckey for the privilege of the field trip.

Dear Editor:
My name is Alondra Guillen and the whole fourth grade went to the Van Horn Historical Museum on Friday, May 2nd. We walked to the museum from the Eagle Elementary. They toured the upstairs and first we went where the court house was. This room was also used for plays, music, and for the laundry room. Next we visited the balcony and it felt scary. Then we looked at the hotel rooms. Last we changed guides and went downstairs. First we went to the bar. Next we looked at an automobile from the early 1900s. After that we looked at the fossils and there was on shaped like a snail. At last we got maps from Mr. Stuckey and he said thank you all for coming, I hope you come back.
Sincerely,
Alondra Guillen

Dear Editor:
My experience at the Van Horn Historical Museum on Friday, May 2nd was great! There was a mine car, a saloon, and opera room. They had an old fashion Ford vehicle. There was some quartz, talc and other rocks. They had rooms that families donated and their name next to the door. So that is why you should visit the Van Horn Historical Museum.
Sincerely,
Luis Carlos Gonzalez

Dear Editor:
On May 2, 2008 we took a field trip to the Culberson County Museum. It was a lot of fun. I learned so much history about Van Horn. It has been used for three different things. The building was a hotel, court house and a saloon. One of the biggest rooms downstairs was the saloon. In the early 1900s they used the upstairs room as a courthouse. They used the upstairs room for other things like offices and opera house.
Sincerely,
Andrea Rodarte

Dear Editor:
Our visit to the museum was great! It was a little scary because there were dolls upstairs. There was a lot of cool stuff. I mostly liked the room with guns, tools, a buggy and crystals. We also saw the courthouse and the balcony. There was a bar downstairs with a crack in the mirror. There was also a kitchen with a lot of stuff in it. There was a fake skeleton upstairs in a coffin. After awhile when we were done looking we walked back to the elementary school. We had a very fun time!
Sincerely,
Adrian Tarango
