The Van Horn Eagles have not been to a play-off game in several years so tomorrow night’s game against the Stanton Buffaloes is expected to be a real tester.
The Eagles, coached by Joe Salinas and his staff, come into tomorrow nights game in 2nd place in the district and boasting of a 6 win and 4 loss season. The Eagles are 3 and 1 in district play.
Stanton has a similar season record and boasts of some really good size and quickness.
The match-up should be a good one, as the Eagles have shown the ability to play with bigger teams before.
Coach Joe Salinas noted, “We think our kids match-up well against Stanton. Our stingy defense will put pressure on their offense and our offense has come together at just the right time.”
Salinas further noted, “We’re pretty healthy and should be able to go with most of our starters and that will help us.
Coach Salinas further added, “We’ve been working on our execution this week and our morale is very good heading into this contest.”
“We think that we’re pretty even with them,” added Salinas and “if we can play for a whole game (48 minutes), we think that we can beat them!” he went on to say.
Game time for tomorrow’s contest is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Pecos High School stadium. Coaches urge all Eagles fans to make the trek over to Pecos to support the Eagles!

It’s always a positive thing when our young people can be exposed to someone who is not only a celebrity, but also has such high ideals and personal accomplishments. Of course it doesn’t hurt that she is also such a pretty lady. That is what they were able to see in Rebecca Robinson, Miss Texas 2008, when she visited our school on Monday.
You could see on her face as she watched our small folklorico dancers how much she loved children and loved to see them proudly perform dances from their cultural background. Her face just glowed as she watched them, as did theirs when they gathered around her for pictures. I hear that her talk to the junior high and high school students was motivating and with the same exuberance and appreciation for the opportunity to share with them.
A couple of the interesting things I read about her on her bio sheet was that she had climbed a volcano and went skydiving in the same week. She is a travel enthusiast and is an avid 5K run participant.
I certainly know who I’ll be rooting for in the Miss America pageant! Thanks to those who made it possible for her to come to Van Horn.

I appreciated knowing that Miss Texas also listed as one of the interesting things in her life was visiting her grandfather’s WWII air base in England. Younger people who have an interest and an appreciation for the sacrifice that has been made by an older generation are to be applauded. Perhaps it is their parents, or even teachers, who are to be applauded for instilling that appreciation in them.
It is always very special to Larry when all his grandchildren remember to acknowledge him on Veteran’s Day and say “Thanks Grandpa”. Even the two away at college called him Tuesday night to let him know they had remembered.
Thanks to those who had a part in the Veterans Day program at school on Tuesday!

A couple of Sundays ago, Paster Rob preached on one of my favorite subjects - Grace. It seems that I am in constant need of an awfully lot of Grace! And where would we all be without the knowledge that “His Grace is sufficient”.
Anyway he came up with his own ‘alphabet of Grace’. It was just too good not to share with our readers of the Advocate.........
