Hey, can you spare a little blood? It has nothing to do with Dracula being one day late to Van Horn and missing Halloween! But United Blood Services will be in Van Horn TODAY!, Thursday for a Blood Drive sponsored by the Student Council at the High School. If you are one of those generous people who realize the need to donate blood, please plan to go up to the auditorium and give that ‘gift of life’ sometime today between the hours of 9am and 3pm. They will be grateful - and you will have a good feeling as well.

I did not go to Lubbock to see our Band compete at Regional Marching Contest, but I understand they did a great job, perhaps even better than in El Paso. However, the competition with the larger 2A bands was just extremely tough and they did not advance. In all aspects of UIL events, it’s hard to compete when you are border line 1A/2A and yet you are competing with much larger schools which are pushing 3A.
But we are still very proud of our band and looking forward to next year. They have a taste of what it feels like to do something really well and I know that will carry over.

I was wondering recently why the Catholic Church had not had their annual Kermez. It usually was on Labor Day weekend I think. But it’s this weekend. Check out their ad in this issue and plan to go out and enjoy the fun, food and fellowship. For some reason, food cooked outdoors at an event like this just always seems to taste better. See you there!

Received on line and liked it..........
Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washed all the dirt off you. He opens you up, touches you keep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff, including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.

Last year, the Texas Legislature approved a school finance reform package that sought to buy down local property tax rates using the new business margins tax and part of the state’s $14 billion budget surplus. However, many school districts, ours included, will seek voter approval of tax rates that would intercept most of the intended property tax relief. You be the judge on this and express your opinion at the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 6th.
