New technology vaults clerk's office into 21st Century

County and District Clerk Linda McDonald reported this week that the new software and hardware recently approved by County Commissioners is now installed in her office and is up and running.
McDonald reported that the iDocket.com software will enable her to better manage Culberson County’s official public records. The new software takes the clerk’s records from paper into the digital era, and will greatly improve customer service.
The new software system, called “Onyx”, provides the clerk’s office with efficient point of sale cashering using modern touch screen technology. This software provides not only for the efficient management of the county’s property records, but also for vital records such as marriage licenses and assumed names.
McDonald said, “Culberson County is the first in West Texas to take full advantage of this new software product by iDocket.com. They are expanding this state-wide service to other counties in West Texas, such as Presidio and versions in Hudspeth and Brewster counties.”
McDonald further commented, “We are excited to offer better services to those who record and search for documents in this office. A public terminal is in place to search for future records electronically. And, these records will be backed up in a secure database off-site.”
The clerk’s office is excited about this new software and the services it will bring to her customers. They are looking forward to the installation of iDocket.com’s Judicial Software in the very near future. “When it is up and running, the two software systems will improve our office’s efficiency and save tax payers money,” noted McDonald.

Isn’t it fun when our athletic teams are all doing well? Believe me, we’ve had plenty of years when that wasn’t the case. Our Eagles will be facing plenty of challenge now, following two extremely easy games and a week off. They’re up for it and the game Friday night in Wink should be a little more exciting than the last two. Give it all you’ve got, Eagles. I hope a lot of Eagle supporters will make the trip to Wink and show our team that we’re behind them! I know that the ‘noise’ and support from the stands is an encouragement to them. This is our year to go beyond district!
If you need an adrenaline rush you might take in a Lady Eagles volleyball game. Wow, last evening’s was exciting and our girls showed their skill and determination to the utmost. Keep up the good work! It’s obvious that Coach Melinda Flores has been building this team up the past few years and it’s paying off. The good thing is there’s some good players coming up on the JV team. We should continue to see good volleyball for quite awhile. They play Dell City here on Tuesday night . Come on out and take in the excitement and a taste of ‘Eagle Pride’.

In the past two weeks we have visited with two couples who will be retiring in the next year or so and plan on moving to Van Horn. These are folks who have bought property here and are just waiting anxiously to retire and be free to move here. Both couples have been taking The Advocate for a few years and probably know about as much of what is happening here as we who live here. They have visited on several occasions and love our small town and especially our climate. What an honor for us to have good people such as these who actually picked Van Horn to retire in, when they could have gone just about any where.
That’s a humbling thought to me, and one that should make us strive to make our town even more appealing to those who might be looking at us. I applaud the City Council for again looking at the fact that our town may not be very attractive and that it’s time for a revived focus in that direction. It seems so easy to lose our determination and focus. So I challenge everyone, and especially our city officials who have the power to enforce city ordinances (without picking and choosing or playing favorites), to take a good hard look at our town, and especially our Main Street, and ask, “Would this be a town I would want to move to?”

Noah’s Ark
Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark……………

One : Don't miss the boat.
Two : Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three : Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
Four : Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
Five : Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Six : Build your future on high ground.
Seven : For safety sake, travel in pairs.
Eight : Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine : When you're stressed, float a while.
Ten : Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
Eleven: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.
